Decades pass, new worlds are born, and still Visage's 'Fade To Grey' sounds as futuristic as it did back in 1980. With a new version about to feature in the Worldwide "Make Up Forever" ad campaign, this classic slice of avant-electronic pop is sent to worm it's way into the musical consciousness of yet another generation.
No one could surpass Steve Strange's original vocal, but Rupaul's Drag Race winner 2019, the irrepressible Violet Chachki, brings a confident new froideur to the song, backed with an understated but assured backing from on the button French producer Lecomte de Brégeot. Russian duo Kim & Buran step up for remix duties, taking the song back towards an updated strain of the Italo Disco sound that influenced Midge Ure & co's original production, and throw in a useful dub for good measure. Chachki and de Brégeot finish off the package with dub and instrumental versions.
