installation: (painted wood, light-bulbs, audio)

Rooms, as first installed at P.S. 1, Long Island City, New York; June 1976

The basement of an abandoned school; the boiler room in the basement; a pit, two black planks are laid over the pit, six black stools in front of each plank. The plank and stools function as tables and chairs underground - desks and chairs under the schoolrooms. Hanging down from the ceiling, two electrical cords lower lightbulbs down to the floor; shadows rise up onto the boilers.

Audio speakers are fixed to the undersides of the planks: the lesson begins - voices come up from below.

The complete program appears on both sides of the cassette.
