Sonic research in two residual places linking poetry, soundscape and architecture. ‘Femminile Plurale’ takes us through a former greenhouse, an irrigation tank and a bunker in Liguria. ‘RADURA’ rewrites the space of an urban clearing in Berlin through a participative performance.‘Femminile Plurale’ was developed during a research residency at Atelier A, in the border area between the Ligurian West and the French Maritime Alps. Three forms of architecture abandoned by humans and reactivated by other species were identified by the artists: a greenhouse, once active for the cultivation of Eucalyptus cinerea, a former irrigation tank and a bunker from the Second World War. The artists decided to read poems to the new inhabitants of these habitats. All the poems are by the poet Gaia Ginevra Giorgi (from “L’animale nella fossa”, Miraggi 2021) and were recorded on site. Then, through site-specific sound installations, the words were spread throughout the rooms, and the new landscape was re-recorded, over and over.
RADURA is a site-specific project, imagined for the Klingenberg power station and the community that inhabits the Gaswerksiedlung on Köpenicker Chaussee, on the border between the Berliner districts of Rummelsburg and Lichtenberg. RADURA comes to life in the residual space lingering between the Vattenfall Wärme power plant, the ICE Werk train maintenance plant, and Funkhaus Berlin. It is an experiment of radical politics that let’s reflect together on the theme of the ‘urban clearing’, of the negative space, of the liminal, the provisional, the Third Passage, the residue. As research in progress, RADURA involves decolonizing and anti-capitalist practices that are designed for bodies to relate to the landscape they cross. Field recording techniques are integrated into the workflow as an opportunity to rewrite the space. The track is the result of a participative performance, where sound materials (collected during the residency and installed in quadraphony) in the clearing, collide with the concrete interventions of the participants.
