2nd of February, 1972. Christian Jespersen sat in his “Jugendzimmer” in Copenhagen, Denmark where he was supposed to do his homework. Instead, he was listening to Sveriges Radio broadcasting the Wild Angels in front of an invited audience somewhere in Sweden. Fortunately the Copenhagen teenager recorded it as one mono track on a 4 track Tandberg reel-to-reel tape recorder at 9,5 cm/sec.Decades later, Christian exchanged some music files with fellow collector Per Jakobsen, who later kindly started restoring the tracks for this album. Per also exchanged music files with guitar picker and R’n’R addict Stephan Soppa from Germany. Stephan showed the files to me and I came up with the idea to make a vinyl album out of it.
Jan, some people perhaps know him as Johnny Valentine, immediately came to my mind since he had done a great job with some Crazy Cavan vinyl reissues on his Rebel Music label. Jan was in the boat and finally I asked Perro Peligroso to remaster everything for a professional sound quality. I added the cover design for a visual journey back to the early days of the Rock’n’Roll revival. (Note that the line-up on the front cover foto is not exactly the line-up in the recording.)
So all you Rockers, Teds and Greasers fasten your seat belts and enjoy the original sound of The Wild Angels!
PS: Thanks to Bob Burgos and Keith Read for their collaboration in this historical Rock ‘n’ Roll album!
