"[Piano Compositions] comes out of a desire to reconnect with my history of classical music with my current life in the hope that it will illuminate who I am, not just introspectively, but in my relationship to music and sound themselves.Given all options available and understood, the creation of music isn't something that intuits itself onto me. Classical training for piano is really just training for performance of the works of others, not composition. I don't really enjoy music, no matter how hard I try. The same goes for the life as the child of an immigrant, and I have been able to process this relationship by rethinking the piano as digital instrumentation, the mechanism of assigning noncontinuous sounds to given keys.
I've chosen samples, chord progressions, and arrangements that I find to be accurate to what I've heard in my life from childhood to now, the sounds of construction machinery, horror movies, Chinese war dramas, choir music, abuse/violence, DJ spinbacks, and of course, piano music.”
