Edward Christie had previously worked for CBS, GTO Records and GEM Records and was responsible for signing the UK Subs, The VIPS and The Killermeters amongst others. After the collapse of GEM, due to RCA withdrawing their financial backing, he set up Abstract. Its first release was the single FK9 - Our Condition.
