Company formed in 1974 by record executives Dick Whitehouse and Mike Curb, and former Warner President Joe Smith (16), with distribution through the Warner Music Group. The first seven artists signed to the label reached #1 on the Billboard chart: The Four Seasons, Bellamy Brothers, Shaun Cassidy, Debby Boone, Exile, The Osmonds, The Mike Curb Congregation, T. G. Sheppard and Hank Williams Jr.
In 2001, the joint company obtained ownership of Christian label group Word Entertainment as a subsidiary label. However by 2016, Curb acquired 100 percent of the leading Christian label, separating from Warner, and officially changing its name to Curb/Word Entertainment.
