Kalinda

1970s-1980s label from Trinidad.

Kalinda or stickfighting is a Trinidadian tradition from 18th-century brought to Trinidad by African enslaved ancestors. The Kalinda dance (ka-raying) camp goes with chants or lav-ways under heavy percussion, that played an important role in the development of the calypso artform. One popular calypso tune Ambakaila was originally a kalinda chant.
