This is the on-screen brand of Central Independent Television plc, the ITV franchisee for the West and East Midlands, taking over from ATV in 1982. The original logo was a stylised moon to reflect the lunar eclipse that occurred just before the channel launched. Over the 1980s the logo was replaced with a 'cake' made up of segments. The logo also appears on merchandise related to the company's programmes.
