Wiggle

Label run by Terry Francis, Nathan Coles. Launched in March 1994, London.

The Wiggle record label sprang from the club night, which has long held a special place in the hearts of the UK's underground community and quickly spread around the world. Held initially on a monthly basis at a variety of often secret London locations and promoted strictly through word of mouth, the club has grown and developed through its policy of promoting the original ethos of the acid house movement; its sound system booms, the atmosphere unpretentious and where absolutely everybody is having a great time. Wiggle is a night like no other and has consistently been ahead of its time in a whole host of ways. When Terry Francis and Nathan Coles started throwing parties, it was pretty much a reaction to their circumstances. Already involved in the early days of London’s house music scene, and both influenced by rare groove and up-tempo soul, they wanted to do something off their own backs, just for their mates, with DJs they liked. Evil Eddie Richards was one of them, so much so, they made him a resident. Over 20 years later the trio are still in the rudest health, noising up nightclubs worldwide with that same simple ethos, while Wiggle – the catch-all term covering record label, clubnight and attitude – has also come to typify a style of music; a deep, basement-shaking music to escape in and get down to.

Guest DJs at Wiggle have included Layo & Bushwaka, Richie Hawtin, Pure Science, Format B, Lunar City Express, Tigeskin, Marc Antona, Audiofly, Richard Grey, Mr.C, Stimming, Gideon Jackson, Glimpse, Geddes, Raymundo Rodriguez, Todd Bodine, Femi B, Corrie, Yapaac, Mr G, Cesar Merveille, Clive Henry, Dave Mothersole, Get Fucked, Simon Atkinson, Tangun, The Freaks, Kenny Hawkes, Magnus Asberg, Mike Parsons, Big Hair & Little Mike, to name a few.
