Het Bakfiets Project
The bakfiets (Dutch for ‘cargo bike’) project is an overarching project in which I depict the effects of gentrification through a variety of media. I have chosen the bakfiets as a symbol of the project. This idea comes from my own history. My mother was one of the first in Amsterdam to transport my brother and me in a bakfiets. My personal history gives me an awareness of my conflicted criticism of the urban process of inequality caused by gentrification. As part of this process, the bakfiets has become a status symbol
