Dental Records
Dental Records - The Whole Rotten Story
Kevin Colgate a dentist with a blue plaque outside his office in recognition of his patent on ‘sad tooth decay’ (‘Blue Plaque’), established the label ‘Dental Records’ as a grassroots canal effort intended to highlight the great musical output and poor oral hygiene of the bands in his waiting room.
He went from gold teeth to gold records (but then back to gold teeth because it’s very hard to chew with gold records in your mouth).
The Zen Arcade’s subsequent signing and sub-subsequent debut single ‘Don’t Say A Word’ was released to a claim that they’d only sent it to journalists in critical condition. The single was panned after going gold.
