Morr Music

Morr Music, a Berlin-based label run by Thomas Morr.

On Morr Music's output harmonic elements tend to dominate the crunchy ones, whose rhythmic chaos sometimes only steps out of rather subliminal areas to match melodic exuberances. On the whole, impressions of easy and smooth melancholy, of comforting contradictions or jittery relaxation prevail.

Morr Music's pop qualities can be enjoyed by more "unexperienced" listeners as well as by the "knowing" ears of a record collector. You don't necessarily have to prove a whole (finished) past on the dancefloor or in guitar-bandwaggoning. You also don't need to have worked yourself through a musical history ranging from THE SMITHS' idiosyncratic melancholies to APHEX TWIN's experiments or SEEFEEL's loops between indie-rock and electronica, to BOCHUM WELT's charmingly and clumsily harmonic recyclings of analog synthesizers. Well, if you should have been affected by this kind of music, it wasn't a bad experience, that's for sure. And maybe you finally decided your actual, ongoing present to start with, let's say, BOARDS OF CANADA or AUTECHRE. But its attractions are not bound to an "historical knowledge". Because, first, we are talking about pop music, and, second, this kind of musical present recently became more and more differentiated and sophisticated. There are those new networks (mentioned above), working on new relations and developing interesting musical joints for the future.

That's where Morr Music tries to keep going with his releases. On the one hand as an "artist-label", in order to "build up" certain musicians, and, if possible, keep them closer connected to the label for several albums - like, for example, PHONEM or BERNHARD FLEISCHMANN. But on the other hand Morr Music is definitely not up to speed down people's activities, that is to say ISAN's, PIANO MAGIC's or, again, PHONEM's, or anybody else's urge to collaborate with different labels. So there's also the intention of being a "project-label". Which includes always being able to promote newcomers with a quick e.p.-statement, and, in doing so, placing them in a more established context. Last but not least by visual means: Morr Music's graphic artist Jan Kruse is responsible for the corporate cover design.
