The independent company Thule Records was owned by Robert Walter Bayes, who ran a photographic shop in Lerwick (trading as R.W.Bayes),. He branched out into retailing records, and created the Thule Records label for recording both local Shetland artists and occasionally those from outside the area. Many early releases are undated on labels, but adverts and newspaper publicity articles give some firm year and month dates. Thule releases were sporadic, and can have considerable gaps between one album and another.
