The label was founded by Howard Walker, and was later taken over by Larry Lick (real name Larry Pavlik).
Early releases had the logo on the label as simply 'Sound' in block text. Later the label was updated to an 'S' logo with a line underneath.
Early releases were distributed by Sound Of Nashville, Inc., later releases were distributed by both Sound, Inc. (in New Haven) and Sound, Inc. (in Detroit).
