The label was originally founded as a subsidiary of Satellite Records, but when Dick Simon folded the Satellite Record Company in 1967, Thomas joined up with Mayfield to reestablish the label as a subsidiary of Curtom Records. This later incarnation of the label was distributed by Buddah Records
