Palmer

1960s soul, rock, and pop label from Detroit, Michigan.

Palmer was owned by The Handleman Co., a Detroit-based "record rack jobber" which was owned by the Handleman family (David, and Paul plus other siblings). Handleman went public in 1967 and was traded on the NYSE. They closed Palmer when Irv Biegal left to work for Bell Records in 1967, and relaunched it in 1969 for Joey Welz who was a long time employee of The Handleman Co. Handleman had a distribution hub in Atlanta, as well as multple outlets in Canada. Irving Biegel became General Manager of the label in 1966 having been Manager at Golden World before which he spent 4 years with Motown His assistant was Al Rosner at Palmer.
