Experimental Musical Instruments
Experimental Musical Instruments was an American magazine, edited and published by Bart Hopkin. Fourteen volumes were printed in quarterly editions between 1985 and 1999, with a complete digitized edition in PDF format currently available on CD-ROM from Hopkin's website. The magazine released a yearly compilation tape, with tracks by artists featured in the journal. Hopkin also released several solo albums under 'Experimental Musical Instruments' label, and later produced two CD compilations, Experimental Musical Instruments - Early Years (2000) and Experimental Musical Instruments – Later Years (2002), documenting a selection of 36 unique instruments covered in his periodical.
Hopkin published several books, a few of them accompanied with compilation CDs, such as Gravikords, Whirlies & Pyrophones (Experimental Musical Instruments) and Orbitones Spoon Harps & Bellowphones (Experimental Musical Instruments) for Ellipsis Arts.
