Nkomo Records

Cape Town, South Africa-based jazz label founded by Mike Perry and Winston Ngozi in the mid-1980's.

"Jika", produced in 1988(?), was the first album to fall under the Nkomo Records label. It was "recorded in London as both Mike and Winston felt that there was an environment of artistic freedom there. In addition, they were able to access the talents of emigre musicians including Bheki Mseleku, Russell Herman and Claude Deppa". Subsequent albums by Nkomo (meaning "bull" in the Xhosa language) were recorded in South Africa and distributed in a partnership with Sheer Sound.
