Venture Records Inc. was incorporated in California on October 2, 1967, as a department of MGM Records for their Soul and Funk acts. It was led by William "Mickey" Stevenson until 1969 when the label was closed. In this time Clarence Alexander Avant worked for the label before founding Sussex.
'Distributed by MGM Records, Inc.' is incorrectly printed on some releases; the correct distributor was MGM Records as they were both divisions of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc.
