The Cake Label

Birmingham label run by (Richard Whittingham), Nigel Blunt and Groove Corporation. The set-up evolved from an 'illegal, irregular, underground little party called Cake'. From there it became a weekly event entitled Breathless, before all the parties involved pooled their resources to form Cake. Each, however, maintained their own individual profiles, with support from the others. DJ Dick's pet project, the Original Rockers, had originally been remixed by Groove Corporation, which led to them joining forces. 'We have a simple manifesto - which is to put out great records, lose no money, and do what comes naturally'. Important releases include Original Rockers - Push Push / Rockers To Rockers (Come Again), Groove Corporation, Bim Sherman - Need More Love (In The Ghetto) and both parties collaboration Groove Corporation, Original Rockers - Stoned. Other signings included Bite Time Crime (hip hop) and Sylophonic.
