First launched in 1987 as Fourth Floor Records with it's first release Fat Lawrence - Tina Tina (Have You Seen Her). Then went into hiatus in 1992, just after releasing Airtight - Housewerk.
In 1997 the label was rebranded as 4th Floor Records.

The back catalogue was acquired in 2016 by Defected.
