Quintessence

Label created by R. Peter Munves and launched in 1977 by Pickwick International, Inc. Initially it was a classical music label and followed the usual Pickwick strategie to release budget releases of licensed recordings, mainly from RCA (and its Reader's Digest mail-order series) and EMI. Remastering was in the hands of selected technicians such as Jack Adelman, giving this budget label a good reputation compared to the original source material. In 1982 the label was sold to Intersound Inc.

It is the sister label to the UK Contour Red Label classical label and use the same series brands. See for example Critic's Choice and Classics For Joy
